Vietnam: Aviation watchdog, airliners step up reform to combat luggage theft.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has adopted measures to prevent luggage theft. Head of the CAAV Lai Xuan Thanh requested the Aviation Security Department to work on rules regarding the prevention of passenger and consigned baggage theft and submit them for approval within this month. The department is also supposed to guide enterprises and airliners to incorporate the rules in their security regulations. The CAAV also urged the state-owned Airports Corporation of Vietnam and related agencies to improve aviation facilities, add more surveillance cameras and scrutinize such processes as personnel recruitment and appointment. The move came after a number of passengers have lodged their complaints on the loss of their baggage or their luggage being ripped open and belongings being stolen.
