India/USA: Airline baggage theft of guns costs para athlete a chance at glory.
New Delhi: Indian para shooter Rajeev Malik missed his chance at winning the competition in the IPC Shooting World Cup in Fort Benning, USA as his rifles and ammunition were misplaced by the airline. Even after a complaint filed with both the airline and Delhi Police, his weapons remain missing 21 days later. Senior police officers said that they are gathering information from the airline. Malik had left IGI Airport on November 4 to attend the championship scheduled two days later. He had booked two .22 rifles and 1,000 rounds of ammunition, each packed in separate boxes, but when he reached Atlanta airport the authorities failed to deliver it.
"At Atlanta, I scanned through my baggage but could not find my guns. I then approached the airport authorities who told me that they did not receive the rifles. They assured me that a search was being conducted and my rifles would be delivered at my hotel before the championship," said Rajeev Malik.
"After my complaint I was assured of full cooperation, but no information has been provided to me till date," he added.
